Having lately received from H.E.
The Captain General
a note on
the number
of passengers travelling between this port Hong Kong and Singapore together with the
quantities of merchandise carried between those
Countries; I have thought it advisable,
this
as
is a matter not altogether without interest for those who
are
inclined to treat with
the Spanish government
regarding
the
herewith
conveyance of the Mails to Singapore, to
transmit a copy of the same
inclosed to
your
Lordship
The trade between this and the
Chinese ports is
in
the returns herewith sent.
The notes
not apparently included
states merchandise Carried.
under all flags, but it must be borne in mind that owing to the action of the differential duties little or
nothing has hitherto been conveyed between the places
